Whether by ground, air, or sea, Thomas Kern keeps his clients moving in the right direction with affordable legal solutions. Focused in transportation and international trade law, Thomas provides a wide variety of clients with legal counsel in all modes of transportation. He advises clients on domestic and international freight loss, damage and delay claims, freight charge issues, negotiations and litigation, contractual drafting (3PL, carrier, and shipper agreements), carrier selection protocols, leases, warehousing, transportation of household goods and hazardous materials, risk management and regulatory compliance issues.

Thomas not only advises his clients regarding the actual transportation of merchandise, he also assists his clients with customs, importing, exporting and trade compliance, including payment of duties; entry of merchandise; specialized entry of prohibited merchandise; valuation; bonds; foreign trade zones; record keeping; classification; ITAR; trade agreements; fines, penalties, forfeitures, and seizures; as well as dealing with requests for information and samples from Customs and Border Protection.

Thomas represents his clients in federal and state courts all over the U.S., including in the Court of International Trade in New York. In addition, Thomas represents clients in front of administrative bodies including Customs and Border Protection, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and other federal and state agencies governing transportation and trade.

Thomas has significant experience in a number of other areas including consumer related claims under the Consumer Sales Practices Act; construction law issues; health care law matters, disputes under the Alcoholic Beverage Franchise Act; commercial foreclosures; employment matters; various business disputes and a wide variety of other matters.

In addition, Thomas advocates on behalf of several not-for-profit entities, including, representing not-for-profit entities in charitable trust disputes, endowment issues, tax appeals and other matters specific to not-for-profits.
